Santa Fe National Forest NEPA Projects

Projects are proposed actions that are analyzed through the NEPA process (EIS, EA, or CE) that involves analyzing different alternatives to the proposed action, requires public notice and comment, and results in a NEPA decision (ROD, DN, or DM) which, subject to an administrative appeals process, and is implemented on the ground. The Forest Projects below are projects that we are analyzing or have analyzed under the NEPA process. Projects that are "Developing Proposal" or "Under Analysis" may have an opportunity for public collaboration and input on the proposed actions and the analysis being conducted.

La Jara Vegetation Management

Thinning of small and medium diameter trees followed by fuelwood collection, mastication of slash, and prescribed burning on approximately 660 acres. The proposed project is designed to impove forest health and resilience by reducing tree density.

Oso Vallecitos Grazing Allotment Permit Issuance

Authorize livestock grazing on NFS lands within the Oso Vallecitos Grazing Allotment. If the decision is to authorize some level of livestock grazing, then the management prescriptions to be applied will also be analyzed.

Redondo Creek - San Antonio Creek Rehbilitation

Elk fencing and native tree planting and bank stabilization in the Upper Jemez Watershed.

Rio Grande Corridor at Buckman Restoration and Recreation Enhancement Project

Remove non-native vegetation with selective use of herbicide and plant native trees/shrubs along the Rio Grande at Buckman site. Development of a parking area, restroom and shade structures on NFS land. Parking/trailhead development on BLM land.

Santa Fe Municipal Watershed Pecos Wilderness Prescribed Burn

Prescribed burning in the Pecos Wilderness portion of the Santa Fe Municipal Watershed.

Santa Fe N.F. Oil and Gas Leasing Amendment and Cuba Roads Management EIS

Forest Plan amendment for Oil and Gas leasing stipulations on unleased lands on the portion of the Forest within the San Juan Basin and the proposed closure and decommission of specific unnecessary roads on the Cuba Ranger District.

Gun closure on 2,500 acres on Glorieta mesa to protect public health and safety and resource degradation associated with target shooting around residential private property in the area.

Analysis of the Las Conchas Grazing Allotment for renewal of a 10-year term grazing permit

Paliza Prescribed Burn Treatment

Prescribed burn treatment located on the Jemez Ranger District, with a portion on Pueblo of Jemez land.

Cebolla/San Antonio Grazing Allotment Analysis

Analysis of the Cebolla and San Antonio grazing allotments for the reissuance of a 10-year term grazing permit.

Southpit Pumice Mine Expansion

Approval of a 10-year plan of operations for a pumice mine of approximately 48 acres adjacent to a recently reclaimed 9-acre pumice mine.
